Timeline of the World's Railways

This table is intended for two main reasons, first for a overview of railway development as it spread world-wide and secondly for potential 18xx designers who are wondering what to call their next game. Please note that in many cases the exact year of a railways inauguration can be in question, to this end the following list is not a definitive source but more of a guide, I have also limited the entries to those before the year 1900. If you think there are any errors or omissions, then please let me know.

I hope that both the amateur and professional will use this to ensure that games are not named after the same year (for example, at one point there were three different games using the 1839 title). While I do not claim that I can dictate to you, I hope to maintain this list with Francis Thresham and ensure that titles are correctly logged and allocated. The intention is to act as a clearing house if that is not being to presumptuous. More on this at a later date.

Under "Existing Title" a game in bold print indicates that it has seen print at some time.
